The last ever train (A Stock No. 5066) arriving at Shoreditch station on the 9th June 2006.

Shortly after the train departed, the station was closed to passenger forever.

Shoreditch Station is now closed permanantly to allow the East London Line to be extended northwards. A new station called Shoreditch High Street will be built as a replacement further north. As of today, demolition work is well under way.

The once quite country-like station is now history.

  • I'm in this video, taking pictures for my Underground History web site (and I also have a photo of the videographer on my web site as a result)! I'm the dude briefly in vision in the first few frames holding my camera above my head to frame the clock in the picture!

  • @hywelw Yes, I've seen your pictures on your site back in the days and indeed I was in it. It was quite a day it was, the station has never seen so much people.

  • I am getting on the train at 1.03!

  • Its been two years already. Time sure goes quick doesnt it?

  • I caught a train to Shoreditch this morning!?!

  • Are you sure its Shoreditch station? The trackwork and platform has now been removed and demolished, so its impossible to get to Shoreditch on the East London Line now.

  • Ahhhh. Londoners can't laugh at trainspotters. This video is evidence that there's a trainspotter in all of us Londoners. It takes something like this to pull it out of us!

  • why couldn't lu put in a shuttle between shoreditch and whitechapel and have trains on the new line aswell???

  • crossrails gonna be great for ppl like me, atm i have to go east to central london, to come all the way bwest again, as theres no trains going south for me. so the loops a great ideam it will relieve congestion too

  • that train must have been crowded...

  • What line is this?

  • because it is on the wrong alignment for the extension so there is no point in having it there

  • What a waste of money to get rid of a station and to build anew one just up the road. why not keep the one you alrady have, weird, the government is always thrifty about non london train transport, but will spend obcene amounts on london train network that isn't necessary, like the cross rail, how many lines coulld have been reopened on 18 billion pounds, loads of them.
