After my wood constructed smokehouse burned to the ground I decided to replace it with a permanent masonry house. I used brick in the "Carolina Style" of using hardwood coals to generate the heat and smoke. I'm also in the process of expanding my shed to include a storage area for the smokehouse and a "Cool Room" to dry cure meats.

  • We live outside of Asheville N.C. we are currently trying to get a house that has a cabin on the property that was built in 1890. I would love to build one of these next to it for our summer gatherings. Did you design the pit or purchase blue prints?

  • @jstan83 Sounds like a nice property you all are looking into...could use a good smokehouse. I didn't use plans for this project, but I must give credit to a man from Tennessee who's smokehouse I basically copied. When researching what I wanted to build his design caught my eye and I developed my "pit" from what he built. His design is also on youtube and I literally went "frame-by-frame" from his pictures to build mine. He also has another site that lists materials. Check out rldel149

  • That is a sweet setup! what part of north carolina? I live in the western part and would love to build one of these

  • @jstan83 I grew up in Chapel Hill where we enjoyed Allen and Son's BBQ. I live in Georgia now and decided to build this so I could create my own "Brickhouse" flavor. I'm glad you like the set up...we do too!

  • The kids shirt is awsome.

  • @SmokenFattys One of my favorite shirts too...unfortunately, I've outgrown it since my "tour in the desert", so it's been passed on to my son! Thanks for watching.

  • @hddm3 Thanks, we had great fun building it. The Smokehouse has become the centerpiece of our backyard and the products from it are amazing. The "Old School" form of smoking with this process requires some attention...but that also adds to the overall experience!

  • wow want one just like this...

  • @gerrymittel Thanks Mr. Mittelstadt, I don't know if I'd call it "professional", but I'm really happy with how it turned out + it works great which keeps my family and neighbors happy! Will absolutely see you all over the Thanksgiving break, Chris

  • @cole42coop Thanks Cole, and thanks for all of your help on the project!
