How many times is this better than the original?

I somehow liked Rihanna's version from the beginning, but Manic Street Preachers took this song to the next level. Well done!

@mapexblack Perhaps a little bit brusk, and your reply came as news to me that I'd even commented in the first place. I suspect booze was involved. I have nothing against people who like either version, it's a matter of opinion. For myself all I'd say is Rihanna's in a section of the music business run by guys in suits chasing trends purely to make money, it just dampens the flavour (to stick with the food metaphor). They are, however, great lyrics and that's true of both artists.

@adriandecleir Am I a snob if I prefer a nice Chicken Tikka Masala over a non-descript plate of miscellaneous meat? Stuff your "snobbery", the lyrics are the same but this version just sounds better, and not just written by a cabal of guys for something pretty to sing. YES I dislike the whole ethos of the "Made Purely To Shift Units" pop, and I'm staunchly proud of that fact. :P

Yeah, I don't listen to Rihanna. But I'd be a fucking hipster to say her music is bad. I never gave her chance... although I probably never will. Music's subjective, sure... but talent isn't.

Hmmm, this is just a cover of an average song, but, they have done it better. Still an average song. Paul

Rain, prepare Your umbrella please
People that love this version but hate Rihannas version dont listen to music properly, musical snobbery/antipop is stopping you from hearing that the original as a decent song. They are both ridiculously catchy versions.

James could sing the label of the back of a sauce bottle and make it sound fantastic!
