Police Standoff 5-7-11, Middletown CT

From The Middletown Press: A possibly dangerous situation was avoided late Friday night after a man who was reportedly armed turned himself over to police after a drawn-out search. Police were searching for him just a block from the Board of Education offices and about two blocks from where another man was fatally shot in April.

Police had the intersection of Hunting Hill Avenue and Russell Street closed off for almost two hours while numerous officers and cruisers were at the scene surrounding a Russell Street home. Two children were reportedly in the home, and they were reportedly found safe. Police used sirens and a PA system to try to wake up the children and get them out to their mother who was waiting with the officers, but they were found to still be sleeping safely in their beds once officers gained entry into the home.

The man police were looking for had apparently left the house but was on the phone with officers, and he eventually told police where they could find him. It is unclear why police were looking for the suspect or whether any charges will be filed. The road blocks were called off around 1:15 a.m.
