In commemmoration of what would have been Keith's 54th birthday on July 1, 2008, I am posting a 60-minute long radio tribute to Keith Whitley which was made available to country radio stations to be broadcast on May 9, 2004, the 15th anniversary of Keith's death. The radio show was hosted by legendary Nashville radio personality Lee Arnold and was produced by Westwood One. This is Part 5, which includes a video I made for his 1989 hit "I'm Over You" and the YouTube premiere of his video for his 5th consecutive #1 hit "It Ain't Nothin.'" My eternal thanks to my friend Victor C. for the "It Ain't Nothin'" video!!!

  • I remember doing a show in 1979 or 80, and Keith was on the bill with J.D. Crowe, and the New South.

He came out in a pink leisure suit and a white cowboy hat, and the girls went nuts.

I heard why after he started singing.

  • I absolutely LOVED your comment! A BIG thumbs up! Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Not sure pal- I never heard it on radio! May try the later released album.: Because it was a Charlie Pride Hit As"I'm gonna LOVE her On The Radio" Charlie was doing a radio station tour and I remember hearing The call letters to my old favorite (long gone ) station- I believe he(C.Pride) recorded call letters for many differnt stations all over the country.

  • Hm. It appears as if David Allan Coe and the Ballamy Brothers also did this song under the title of "I'm Gonna Hurt Her on the Radio". I am not sure which came first. This Keith Whitley version sounds like it might have been recorded during the first two album sessions.

  • I think you might be right on the timeline for the recording of the track "I'm Gonna Hurt Her On the Radio." If one listens to Keith long enough, he can tell by the quality of Keith's voice roughly at what point in his career a track was recorded. His voice was really rough and deep in the early '80s, around '81 or '82. Then he stopped singing between '83 & '84 to concentrate on songwriting and to recover from his brother's death. At that point, his voice became higher-pitched. Then got deeper.

  • It seems to me that I recall that Vern Gosdin also covered the song, as well.

  • As I watch the video for "It Ain't Nothing", did anyone recognize there isn't a single clip from the "don't close your eyes" video? i saw clips from "homecoming 63"," hard livin'", "when you say nothing at all" and "honky tonk heart", but nothing from the video for Keith's signature song.

  • He will never be forgotten
