If you cut out the (very unsexy) sex you actually have something approaching a decent film. I always thought so, anyway...

He realized how much Bob Guccione would fuck him so he preffered to kill himself.

@BibleJoker2Face What is it you dont understand? Nerva, the advisor of Tiberius Caesar and his last ally. Commits suicide to avoid getting killed by Caligula whom he opposes. In his mind its probably the same as a letter of resignation. Ah well Its rome afterall. Its but a long tale about political assasinations and power.

@ral1334 We're probably talking about two different films.

2:34 did anyone else find that funny? "Are you sure?" *slaps on head* XD

It's too bad Gielgud had to make such an early exit in this film, but a great death scene all the same. This movie was the first I'd ever seen of him and it made me want to see all his earlier films. Those who like this should see him as Cassius in Julius Caesar.

I know. Classic English villains Macdowell & O'toole both. Evil wouldn't be evil if it didn't have such articulate proper speech patterns.

Hunter S. Thompson was a fan of this movie according to E Jean Caroll in her biography of him. I think he played this scene a few couple of times to get psyched for his big exit.

Yea I guess so
No problem...film, music, the arts all require passion...its what bring out the genius in people. You and your sparring partner might be interested in another posting of mine on my wacmpr channel. Its some clips of The Hired Hand. A Peter Fonda cult western with photography by Vilmos Zsigmond and editing by Frank Mazzola. I have 3 clips posted...the opening and ending scene and also a beautiful eulogy by Warren Oates. Type the Hired Hand in the search box and they should pop up.
