Three Sisters Springs, the jewel of Crystal River, Florida. Winter refuge to hundreds of manatees. Surrounding property bought by developers who plan a high-density development meaning certain death to this small piece of paradise. How YOU can help "Save Three Sisters Springs"

@starthrower that sounds good to me, think it is best that this is turned into a wiled life preserve.

Three Sisters has been saved and is now a wildlife refuge. We live on the water across from the spring. Nice to have private and public support.

beautiful video. We will be going there in February. What about a promotional tourist package deal? I was looking into swimming with manatees but I was afraid it was a "bad" thing to do. A promotional effort which includes a donation might make sense. Perhaps you could even create an "all-inclusive Save the Manatees"

Very nice video. We will be diving here this year November 28, 29, 2009. It looks just as it did in the video. This is the real Florida you don't see at Daytona or the tourist traps.

I grew up in Crystal River and swam here every weekend!! I too am sadden that anyone would want to build around this beautiful place. This is the first time I've heard of this since I moved! I know the people of Crystal River adore this place and they should come together to save the springs! I hope the developer got hit hard by the economy is out of business!!!

My friend recently sold this property, it used to be open to the public but is sadly now going to be turned into a reservation where no swimming is aloud. I still have a rock from the heart of the springs, it is such a beautiful place, but no one will be able to experience its beauty like you used to, now that you cant swim there any more, i guess its for the best. god bless

@htkendall There are no immediate plans to ban swimming in the springs, although that would be best during the winter when the manatees are trying to rest and stay warm. The property itself will be managed as a wildlife refuge and will eventually be opened to the public so anyone wil be able to see manatees from shore.

currently, we are about $95,000 short of acquiring this property for public ownership and preservation.
