The extraordinary Tunisian-born Leila Haddad, one of the world's premier Oriental dancers, performs traditional dances of the little-known Ghawazee (Gypsies) of southern Egypt in the popular style. Her entrancing program features the dances from which raqs Sharqi (commonly referred to as "belly dance") evolved. She has been at the forefront in bringing this sensuous dance form out of clubs and cabarets to the theatrical stage, winning it recognition as a noble art form and freeing it from the degrading connotations of the past. She will be accompanied by the Gypsy Musicians of Upper Egypt, a 7-member ensemble that includes members of the internationally renowned Musicians of the Nile. This program marks her New York debut.

Beautiful dancing, so graceful. I would love to be taught by her.I love the costumes too, especially the red dress of the third song onwards (drum solo and Salamat) anybody knows if it's got a special name and where I could possible find one? Thank you.
I took classes with Leila many years ago in Paris in dance School of Marais district... She is so wonderful and so encouraging. I was totally "nul" but she had a kind word for every student. Leila - tu m'a appellée "La Belle Tania" - merci! Je me souviens toujours de toi et de ta musique - j'ai gardé une K7 jusqu'au recent. Tania
I took classes with Leila for a couple of years in Paris and had to leave the country. Never found a better dance teacher since (either in raqs sharki or other dance styles) , or seen a better and more inspiring dancer. That's good in a way, but it makes so many other classes disappointing! Valérie.
La vera classe e il sapere della cultura mediorientale non a caso si vede proprio nelle grandi professioniste!!!!!!!!!!!!! Complimenti!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
