These Islanders were visited by the same visitor that spent time with the Mayans&Incas. Ancient stone faces were made to show respect and a welcome mat for a promised return. Like the Myans it never happened. The Dutch brought ashore diseases that eventually wiped out the entire population. The Alantian and Serians new this tall white haired fair skin man with an elongated head. The Maya wrapped their childrens heads with rope to elongate them to pay respect to the visitor from the stars...
The statues were meant to be placed on a platform near the coast facing inwards, so that the could look over the whole island. Only a fraction of them were actually placed in their proper locations - they were so difficult to move that most were dumped midway from the quarry where they were carved.
Except a group of statues that are facing the ocean, all the others are facing inwards.

They say the statues contain the spirits of their dead chieftains, so that they could watch over the living.

They're all pointing to a volcano that is on the island. The natives called the island the "navel of the world."
