Petit hymne sans prétention, toujours avec la dysharmonie d'un tirant grincheux.
A little and humble hymn, with the dysharmony of an old 'hautbois' command.

  • Woow!! This Reed Organ is a real one!! Are there any plaques with the builders name on? It seems to me that this is quite a high-quality organ, but in very bad condition.

What is the location of this organ?

    Yours,

    LSA

  • Hello, this is not a reed-organ, but a harmonium. It's a french one, from the famous builder Debain. That was a medium-quality "foot-pump" organ. It's located in Belgium, and had been repaired sinds that video. Don't be too much severe with him, he's from 1867, and had mushrooms in it when I founded him. More info on my blog (adress in my profile)

  • Woow!! I got 3 Harmoniums in my house:-) Mustel, Kotykiwicz, and one by Trayser... Mustel is the best:-)

Nice that you are restoring this one! Anyway,, I guess you did remove the mushrooms:P

    Succes with your playing!!

    Yours,

    LSA

  • Mustel have a really nice tune. My 'new' harmonium (on my blog) is perhaps a Mustel,or a Christophe et Etienne. I have a little belgian harmonium from Balthasar-Florence too. I don't know Kotykiwicz (Poland ?) or Trayser: if you have some info on it, It would be glad to forward it to me :)Did you ever think about posting your harmoniums videos ? May I ask also where you are located ? PS : I will post in a couple of week my first video of the 'new' harmonium. He has two keyboards !!!

  • Dear Bob,

How would someone tell between a reed organ, a harmonium, and a melodium? Je ne parle pas la bon francais, alors si vous dire cette difference sur votre blog je ne pouverais pas le comprend.

  • Very basically, a reed-organ is vertically builded, and have very specific command's mecanic. The air is 'pulled' into the instrument. Harmoniums are horizontally builded (there are exceptions), and have other types of stops. The air is pushed into the instrument. They have both reeds that differ. A melodium is like the neanderthal harmonium : same fonctions, but very basic because older.

  • Sinds that video, the pedals and the 'air system' have been changed. You will find some new video's on YouTube. Almost everything has been repaired, but the big "soufflet" does not go down correctly. Normaly, there is no more leaks in the air circuit now.

  • The organ sound like it has a leak in it because you can hear the pump pulses,\. Normalll you should not be able to hear that. The sound is very weak as well. Play it one, that's enough.

  • I know it isn't a good thing. In fact, pianist are just scared when they see that. I don't have a fingering technique, because I never learned it; these are just my "spiders hands" trying to play on a keyboard ... Nice nickname/pseudo, by the way :)

  • i have never seen fingering technique like that
