For people just getting into making their own tracks, Propellorhead Reasons, Dr. Rex module is probably the easiest way to make something that sounds good.

I really wouldn't get involved in worry about what other people are doing because what is supposedly 'good' according to the radio is dirt and in should no way be compared to what Ryan is doing here. One.
