The price you pay is a nation of inequalities. A nation full of hate. A nation full of fear. .... and a generation to be lost.

Looking only at felony arrests, Blumstein and Graddy found that one out of every four males living in a large city could expect to be arrested for a felony at some time in his lifetime.

When broken down by race, however, a nonwhite male was three and a half times more likely to have a felony arrest on his record than was a white male.

Whereas only 14% of white males would be arrested, 51 % of nonwhite males could anticipate being arrested for a felony at some time during their lifetimes.

". Eat from the Tree of Knowledge. "

I tried that, but it gave me indigestion.

  • @nanoday1 I am not criticizing home schooling per se. I am criticizing the main reason, Americans do home schooling: Religion. My country is a third world country and public education is deficient, so I have to send my children to private school (that is not so expensive as in other countries). My reason is to get better quality. The USA shows its ignorance, when most of the time, parents home school children to indoctrinate them into their personal religion. That is just plain wrong.

  • From grade school through most of high school I was home schooled. As a university student I've been reasonably successful. I am currently considering graduate school.

Although I can understand the value of mandatory public education, I don't think the answer in the United States is as simple as making public education mandatory. Public schools are often very poor, and I feel that before public education becomes mandatory, we need to address the current problems surrounding it.

  • Home schooling is often better than going to a public school. If you live in a bad school district, sending your kids/going to a public school can mean subjecting yourself/your kids to poor teaching and undesirable social influence. It can be damaging both socially and academically depending on the situation.

Of course, thinking that home schooling is better for a religious reason is not objective. Letting your religion define education for yourself or for another person is irresponsible.
