LYRICS: Crimson flames tied through my ears
Throwin' high and mighty traps
Countless fire and flaming road
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull, I dreamed
Romantic flanks of musketeers
Foundation deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

(guitar solo)

Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now

My guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

  • Could someone tell me how many of these guys are still with us?

  • @englishsandy- Roger McGuinn is still alive- along with David Crosby and Chris Hillman. Gene Clark and Michael Clarke are no longer alive.

  • @rwells47 - actually Roger McGuinn's real name is Jim. James Joseph McGuinn was born on July 13, 1942. He changed his first name to Roger after a flirtation with the Subud religion.

  • @rwells47 tar for that quick reply.Much apreciated,I just loved the sound the jingle jangle sound their sound it was so melodic,so so good to listen to taks me back to some really good places wish I could go back to.

  • @Usurpationblitz Disagree 200 times.

  • Bob Dylan's is like 100x better.

  • His Bobness is a poet scholar and an hero of the highest order.Sandy.

  • @blindingrunt I like that phrase "his Bobness" very apt.

  • @rwells47 ~ Don't forget, there's another member of the Byrds from their later "Rockabilly" days who was a significant part of that era of the group, circa; 1968 and into 1969 ~ Gram Parsons. Though it has been written that during his short tenure with the Byrds he was little more than a side man on salary, Parsons contributed a great deal to that particular genre of music that the Byrds produced during a short, but important, chapter in their musical history. Parsons died in 1973 at age 27.

  • Best cover group of His Bobness.
