I think that the people born with androgen insensitivity syndrome should be able to pick the sex that they will live as, not have the doctor and parents pick it for them.

Sex change as a fashion statement is nuts, but then I don't like breast augmentation surgery either.

I am not a huge fan of gender reassignment surgery, but sometimes it is necessary in the case of children who are born with ambiguous genitals due to androgen insensitivity syndrome. These children are biologically male, but will not develop as males because the testes do not descend and they often have a very small or malformed penis. For years, these children were routinely made into girls because phalloplasty is so hard to do.
