@muhammaddog - excellent point, and one that I'm not sure a lot of drumming fans know. Unlike the carefully sunchronized and rehearsed solos of many of the most highly regarded drummers today, Buddy's solos were tailored to the song...they were musical and unique.
Yes i totaly agree with you, but this solo is the first time we have seen Buddy just play around with a groove like i said a rare clip, sorry but i don`t think the title master solo is deserving
If you pay attention to his stuff, you will find that his solos are tailored to the tune. They have the feel and groove of the tune. Unlike most drummers who treat any break in the music as an opportunity to go Animal crazy.
Sometimes the best solo is nothing or very little.
This is funny, it`s obvios that Buddy is some kind of guest somewere and has no intention of playing a solo of any kind he just keeps the groove going with a couple of fills, this is the first time i have ever seen Buddy turn down the chance to play a solo, very rare indeed !
I'm sure Buddy Rich was on one of Jack Jones British tours, I seem to remember an incredible version of "Here's that rainy day" that they did together. Happy memories.

That doesn't look like a kit he would play, must have been sitting in with someone.

Do you really think that professional musicians just show up to parties and start playing music unannounced? I find that offensive.
