One of only FOUR beautiful Vickers VC-10s that flew for British United, and one of only FIFTY FOUR aircraft built.

An absolutely superb Aeroplane, she was the victim of politics & timing, and just like the CV-990, she appeared just a little too late to a market that had been swallowed up 707s & DC-8s.

However, she was a most advanced machine for 1964, and an outstanding aircraft in all respects. Had the VC-10 appeared a few years earlier, surely more would have been built.

Pilots loved her, passengers loved her, EVERYBODY loved her...except the people who don't like airplane noise. :-(

Boo & Hiss. :-)

Unfortunately, this VC-10 seems to have been somewhat "Hushed" by the movie cameras!

In addition, along with the Convair CV-990, she remains the fastest jetliner in the skies.

  • People who don't like engine noise don't like planes. The engine noise is what defines aviation.

  • Exactly. :-)

  • Mcdonnell220.....I believe the only example of this aircraft ,(your username), is on the west coast. I sketched it years ago. Would be great to see it rampside with a JetStar! :)

PS: Also enjoyed your VC-10 clip. Not too much reference around for the BUA machines.

  • You're right! The only thing that's half as enjoyable these days are RB211's, Trent's, and those GE90's.

  • agreed, can's beat the scream of a P-51, rumble of a radial, or thunder of an old turbojet
