  • I wish someone would post the finale with Glenn!

  • I think a blind monkey was filming this.

  • I saw Glenn at this production at the Shubert in LA. I was mesmerized and I must say that Glenn Close really brought such depth to Norma Desmond in her portrayal. She really captured her character. While some criticized her singing, I thought it was very good and surprisingly, very appropriate for this role. Norma is both forceful and fragile, just the way Glenn delivered her songs. I can't imaginine anyone else playing Norma this well. (I've seen Petula Clark also in this role.)

  • @damages79 Her vocal delivery of this part was much debated. She never quite managed to blend the registers. It was either fully belted chest voice (and quite strong) or pure head voice, like in most of this first song. The trouble was that she could only take the chest voice up to a certain point. Beyond that she had to resort to head voice which for most of the songs was a bit of a shortcoming since at times it sounded a bit like jodeling. However I still think she did an amazing job.

  • could you tell me what kind of voice she uses? she sounds quite operatic...

  • I absolutly LOVE Glenn Close -Shes is amazing! Best Norma By Far! :)

  • when was it recorded?

  • Saw her 3 times in LA, absolutely mesmerising! The Gloria. Swanson masterpiece is the standard.

But I must say Glenn Close brought such depth to this fragile Norma Desmond I could have continued to see it repeatedly.

    Thanks for posting

  • what a voice...

  • Late 1993 or early 1994.
