A video tutorial on making wigs for dolls with vinyl heads.

Sorry the audio is lack-luster, but this is just a tutorial so I didn't really feel like investing much into the audio aspect.

And for some reason I was having trouble pronouncing "scrap" when recording the audio.

EDIT: Mar 7 08 - 100+ views! Yay! Thanks guys! ^_^

Changed the icon, because everyone loves fire hazards, and because the default one was a bit blurry and hurt my eyes.

  • Have you ever heard of a wig cap? Thier caps that fit your dollfie head. and sew the wing into. without any risk to yourself or the doll

  • I have, but I'm not sure where to get them/what sizes I need.

  • This is wonderful! Im working on making one for my big boys (1/3 bobobie resin) and it's working not damaging the resin but i have a question, how do you get the part at the top and does it stay on?

  • With the vinyl heads, once you peel it off, it can slip out of place due to gravity/handling, so a pin does help hold it in place. Not sure about resin.

As for the part.... Have you ever seen how a vinyl head is rooted? It's kind of done in a zig-zag pattern. I think the ideal way to do the part would be to glue tiny bits in a zig-zag pattern.

I need to find the lighter fluid, but I've got a more detailed video in progress and can try covering parts. Still a newish technique, though.

  • could you do more videos on other methods?

p.s. great video, it's really helpful!

    thanks

  • You mean on other doll wig-making techniques? I could do one on faux-fur wigs, but I'm afraid I don't know any other good ones.

Or just other doll tutorials in general?

Oh, I do have a follow-up planned; need to get back to it.... I got sick and busy so I didn't finish it. XD

  • honestly, i would never hot glue hair to my doll. it is likely to melt the head and if i ever did want to remove the wig, it would fall to pieces.

  • you can easily make your own wig caps out of fabric. i generally stick with felt because it holds well to glue and hair.

  • Nice and informative. And really, do you think I should not eat the materials?????

Great warnings too, it´s so logical, most people forget about them.

  • Were did u buy that doll it's cute

  • That whole warning is funny.

  • lmao. this was hilarious.

  • very helpful, thanks!!

  • the warning part its hillarious ! : D master piece

  • wow, thanks for this it's so helpful, it would never have even occurred to me that I could do this without damaging the head.

definitely going to try it! ^^

  • nice helpful video.

would you have any further (or special) tips if i plan to use this method for making custom female GIJoe heads/hairdos (the small 3 inch line)?
