To request Keving Klinkenberg to come speak at your next event, fill out the request form: http://newurbanismblog.com/request-kevin-speak/

Watch Kevin Klinkenberg, Principal of 180° Design Studio, compare and contrast two sections of Westport Road in Kansas City, Missouri. Klinkenberg will look at how each of them work, look at the details of each and then show why one is so much better than the other. The interesting thing that will show on both of these, is they are both five lane sections and they both have space for trees and a sidewalk space. However, how they are put together and the impact on the pedestrian experience is very different.

  • Hmm I think the 'good' part of the road could be even so much better.... Pedestrians don't have enough space, at all... The car should not be the king of the road, I mean, the more space you give the car, the more space it will ask... Narrow the space of the roads, people will notice it's not really fun or pleasant to take a car on that road, and they will change to other vehicles, or even by foot!

Plus the trees need more space, they look ok, but they would be healthyer with more space...

  • Great post.
