You don't need gMail to use the amazing cloud Office colaboration suite Google Docs.

You can upload all your folders of Microsoft Word and Exel documents to the cloud, and access them anywhere - just like your email.
Lose your computer/ wipe your hard drive, and everything will be ok in the Internet.

Also, the web app will keep updating for free, but Microsoft Office comes out every few years in expensive locked copyrighted versions...

Use your Hotmail or Yahoo (or other) email address to use Docs, Calendar and more with a Google Account (link Google to your email address)

just follow the instructions, and away you go ~ ^__^
