Beautiful litany in the Church Slavonic Language. This is NOT regular Russian language! It is a unique kind of Russian, for Church only.
Written by Grechaninov, NOT Sergey Rachmaninov(sorry, I made a mistake on the beginning credit) and sung by Feodor Shalyapin.
The choir in the background is singing "Господи помилуй!" repeatedly .while the singer sings the main words (which are on the screen for your interest).

Many thanks to dear Misha for this!

  • thank you for posting this-- whats strange to the ears for the Russian Orthodox in this piece is the organ which is never allowed in our churches - Sadly the Greeks and some others now use them-

  • @cossack207 You know, I thought I heard an organ too, but kept listening and then thought it's just human voices, the lower bass guys are so colorful and rich, it only sounds like an organ? But in some places I still can almost hear an organ again. I'm still not sure if it's really an organ or not! But if it is-why did they have that?

  • There is an organ . This piece was recorded as a concert performance.

The organ is not allowed in Orthodox services because prayers are sung and

the human voice is the only vechicle that can produce words of prayer.

In some Greek churches the organ is used as an ison (pedal) . This is a sustained note, mostly hummed, while a chanter sings the melody.

  • Иудео-христианская мерзость.

  • @Only4Russian That's definitely an organ, which is indeed strange.

  • @Solkovsky I think it's beautiful too!

  • † Слава тобі, Господи, слава тобі! †

  • @thatMikhail Oh, it was intended to cossack207

  • @Only4Russian Even if there's some piece of organ in it there's no improper phenomenon in that. We go in anciently detailed churches (columns etc), admire classic literature, even democracy solely come from Athens, the eminent church on Nerl has signs of the zodiac on its walls outside, you know. What of it? Nothing! It's culture. It's everywhere, it's integral to our life. So why not an organ? The point is in the other thing - in Trinity , in the Gospel!
