Synovial chondromatosis is a benign condition in which there is a meatplastic transformation of the lining of a joint to produce nodules of cartilage. It occurs most commonly in the knee, but also has been reported in joints. The condition responds well to keyhole surgery as long as the surgeon looks carefully for the aetiology.

  • Canuck,

Let us know what your Toronto Orthopaedic Surgeon thinks when you return to talk about your recurrence of symptoms. Have you got a video of the original surgery or a histological report on the loose bodies?

Best of luck with your surgeon

  • Anyone else had this condition? If so post here to work out what the current treatments are and which are successful. Please provide the following information about the onset of your synovial chondromatosis:

1 Date of onset of symptoms (usually pain and swelling). 2 Date of first operation (the diagnosis is often delayed) and date of recurrence of condition. 3 Operation performed on the knee (what did your surgeon say was done).
