The evidence for the existence of a person named jesus is not overwhelming, rather the opposite - and keep in mind that the bible mentioning jesus is not a proof for its correctness because this would be a tautological argument. However, there are indicators, that a historical jesus may have existed, as a real person. It would be unscientific to denounce his existence because we have some indications outside of the bible.
