  • I'm doing research on black powder weapons - could you help me and give me your best estimates on a) muzzle velocity, b) reload time and c) accuracy (MOA) for the Snider Enfield.

Many (MANY !) thanks in advance !

  • Velocity - approximately 900 fps

Reload Time - Takes about 3 hours to cast bullets, form shells, punch wads, make grease cookies and then and load 20 of them...just kidding, one shot every 5-10 seconds.

Accuracy - MOA? Ha! You'd be very lucky to hit a garbage can cover at 100 yards. These tend to shoot 10-15 inches high at 100 yds.

  • Where on earth did you find Cartridges for the Snider-Enfield, didn't they stop making the .577 Snider in the 30's?

  • Although brass is available from Jamison and Bertram, these are formed from 24 gauge all-brass shotgun shells, loaded with black powder and topped with cast lead bullets.

  • go to : Midwest USA, they sell the Ten- X in 480 gr.

  • Thanks heaps for the info. For some reason it's very hard to get hard data on black powder weapons, especially rate of fire and muzzle velocity.

If you do the maths on rate of fire, accuracy and running speed for an average burdened soldier, you can see that 75-100 yards was perfect engagement range - just close enough to have a hope in hell of hitting, just far enough away to avoid a charge by an enemy after discharging your weapon.

    Thanks again for the info.

  • Age doesn't matter, condition does. I shoot one with a barrel dated 1862.

  • yer there good i bought one the other day i wont be firing it tho cuz its like 150 years old

  • this is my my fave blackpowder breach loader! i so wish i had 1!!!
