Dakak 2007 Part 2

Zamboanga del Norte in northern Mindanao is famous for the beauty of the Orchid City of Dipolog and the historical, rustic quaintness of the Shrine City of Dapitan. Here we spent a 3-day holiday enjoying Dakak Beach resort, and an exciting trip to Dapitan City, where Jose Rizal spent the last 4 years of his life in exile before his martyrdom. Here, he practiced medicine, pursued scientific studies, continued his artistic and literary endeavors, and widened his knowledge of languages. In Dapitan, Rizal founded a school and a hospital, and became a farmer to prove to the people that farming is as good a profession as medicine. He wrote here his famous poem "Mi Retiro."
