Downtown Detroit had one of the greatest magic shop demonstrators in Roy Kissell and his shop "The Fox & Fun" shop has many legendary stories. Here is one by Greg Bordner of Abbotts Magic
I spent many hours in Roy's shop in downtown Detroit. He never had to ask me if I had any money though. Whenever I'd saved up enough I would hightail it down to Roy's to buy a magic trick. He recognized me as a regular customer and was always very kind. I still have a box with the tricks that I bought from Roy back in the 60s.
Roy was the son of a carny. He could talk the talk and he knew the walk. It's true, the first question he asked a kid in his magic shop, "Fox Fun N Magic" was "How much money do you have?" Roy never sold you anything beyond your skill level and he always made sure you had enough money for bus fare. I miss you Uncle Roy.
