News 12 Brooklyn - John Dewey High School Protest

John Dewey finally receives the media coverage it rightfully deserves. The Department of Education has stated the possibility that John Dewey High School might be shut down. Many students and teachers are highly opposed to this idea, so they started to host fight back Fridays, in which students and teachers protest before classes start. John Dewey High School is an AMAZING school. Many opportunities it bites out the typical NYC High School. Noticed how quickly this school went down? It's a bit peculiar, but the reason this school has fell so much is since the announcing closing of Laffayette High School in 2006, most low grade disrespectful students have moved to Dewey. This is disappearing, though.

Nevertheless, JDHS will always be a good school and it can become greater with more support. We are strong, we will prevail!

Hi,

I agree with you; John Dewey does offer a unique atmosphere unlike any other high schools NYC. It can become greater but first, many low performing students must be taken out. They are the ones making John Dewey go down in the ranks so quickly. Nevertheless, I am confident John Dewey will improve in the upcoming years to come.

I recently graduated this school; with that said I would recommend that you not enroll in John Dewey. It used to be a great school but it is quickly fading away. It has some of the best teachers in New York (personal opinion) but the student body is making the school impossible to run, so as of now, do not enroll.

After all of this, the school has been taken over by a company. NOOOOOOOOO!!! It is not part of the DOE anymore, and is becoming a private high school.

@exmo7 it is a good school, you'll meet some great ppl there, the teachers are great, but not much extracurricular activities> but there are some but its a good school.
