God's Mirror

Mirrors in Western culture are all over the place...

Bathrooms, malls, churches...

I have one in the vestry, in my travel kit...

Yes, mirrors are important to find out

if there is food in my mustache

or to see if I have buttoned my shirt correctly (I'm getting old).

But, we seem to have a fixation on our physical image.

Listen: You don't really have to worry about that kind of stuff.

As a mother once told her daughters,

as they were checking themselves in the mirror:

"Don't worry how you look. No one is looking at you."

A little harsh, but in a sense really good advice.

What is important is how we reflect God to the world.

We are God's "mirrors."

When people see us they should see godly graces.

Look in the mirror. What do you see?

OK, ignore the nose, the complexion...

Look deeper.

What "fruit of the Spirit" do you see (Galatians 5:22-23)

Love

Joy

Peace

Patience

Kindness

Goodness

Faithfulness

Gentleness

Self control

Come on...out of the nine, you have, at least, two or three

which show through your actions of good works.

THIS is what we must project to the world.

THIS is how we "mirror" God to the world.

And, as St. Gregory of Narek said,

The Holy Spirit "grows stronger daily by good works."*

Check the mirror again.

You are beautiful

when you mirror God's love to others.

Let Him shine.
