This one is the best hymnal that I have heard. It takes me back to over 40 years when Sis Mobile Hairston and Senoir Choir # 2 at St Paul`s High Street Baptist in Martinsville use to sang with the Spirit Of GOD We had church before church started. What has happen??

I would love to share! I was at First Church the night you mentioned when Irma Gynn sang "Lifeboat" it was amazing! I can recall being in service as the spirit got high and we could smell the smoke of a cigar which was Preacher's signature! Y'all talkin bout history, for most of it I was there! I have vintage vhs tapes of concerts I've rendered at 1st Church and many cassette tapes of the broadcasts! Church like that will never be no more. I am grateful to have witnessed what I did!

OH my GOD this takes me BACK! WHEW!!! I thank God I came along when I did. Such history and at the time we weren't even aware of it! I can see Ms Julia Mae Kennedy even now! Oh how I miss Uncle Ralph! I sing some of Elizabeth Hall's songs even now when I'm asked to appear at First Church. Bless you Dwayne!

I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Uncle Ralph before he passed and it was incredible how much he shared about one of the greatest church choirs of all time.
He also told of how First Church came to introduce the Hammond organ to gospel music.
Thank you and God bless you for posting this

Today I am listening to some old 1st Church broadcast tapes. I just heard Carneal Overton sing "I'll Rise Again". This is such an inspiring song and I have not heard it in years. Carl can sing "Somebody Bigger Than You and I" and tear the church up. I wish the choir success for their 79th Anniversary on Oct 26, 2008 at the church.
I wish that I could go back in time to actually sit in the services where this type of singing was going on here in Chicgo in the 60's & 70's. I just thank God for such a rich history in Gospel Music here in the city of Chicago! Chicago Rocks!!!!!
