The 90's were so diverse, yet it all meshed so well. An alternative station would play Alice In Chains, then Mazzy Star, then Tool, then Toad the Wet Sprocket, then The Sundays, then Smashing Pumpkins, then Poe, then R.E.M, etc.
Grunge, psychedelic, rock, electronic, folk, industrial...all of it was an "alternative" to the decade of bullshit we had to endure in the 80's, and it could all be found on one station. Sadly, it only lasted about 7 years before Britney and the boy bands fucked it up.
