Kyron is six years old and has been diagnosed with Pervasive Development Disorder (PPD), a form of Autism. He is a kindergartener with a love for music who is learning to play the drums with the help of his older brother. Kyron's mother, Arlene quickly learned that the word "communication" had a broad definition and that he would have to find different ways to communicate. She helped him learn sign language, and after realizing he had a photographic memory, she began labeling all of the items around the house. The world around him became very visual as he associated the words with the labeled objects and his speech capacity is steadily growing daily. His disorder has showed them that the most enriching form of communication is not always through words -- but it's also through sharing, laughter and most of all love. His full recovery is the ultimate goal, and losing is not an option.

  • I think Arlene really shows what it means to not lose. Sure, it is hard to get into the entertainment industry, but nothing is harder than being a great mother. I amend her.
