George Carlin was an icon and my personal hero. I wish I could've known him personally, but at least I got to see him perform live before he died.

In Illinois, the Genesee Theater in Waukegan, Illinois. I don't remember the date or anything, but It was the show he that eventually became his HBO special called "Life is Worth Losing". I saw it about 2 months before that aired if I remember correctly.

I have to say it was pretty interesting because he didn't have everything down at the time and a couple of times he had to refer to a crib sheet during some of his bits. But it was brilliant all the same.

Penn obviously has great love and respect for George Carlin, but I wonder what his opinion of Bill Hicks is. After all, they covered many of the same topics in their comedy, including children, abortion, religion, the ruling class, war, assassination, national pride and the media.

goddamn... so many people miss the point of what Carlin was saying... be your OWN adult... make your own fucking rules... period... most people live their lives thinking traffic laws are one thing tax laws are another... fuck all that... we make our own rules.... thats what this whole fading republic is all about... being an adult... we can choose to do that or we cannot... plain and simple...
