  • I had never listened to this song until this past Thursday, at my son's funeral. He was just 27. His girlfriend knew about his passion for Tom Waits and this was his pavorirte song, so we chose it for his funeral. There was not a dry eye as it played. I will always love this song. I feel close to my son as I hear Tom Wait's gravely, yet peaceful voice. Gotta be one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Thank you Tom .

  • This is quite simply one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Dedicated to winos and alkies everywhere. I'm delighted to find a studio version without a slideshow or video. You need to conjure up your own pictures for this one.

  • @jsnwhite619 draw more emotion than dollars

  • this is a song i remember from my childhood....i did not want to grow up either ....but in less than six weeks i will be an old man...for everyones sake i hope this song never gets any hates!!!!

  • This is the anthem for all the surplus people, all those junkies alkies and people hiding from the harshness of our world. Bless them all and bless the Waits too.

  • @SparePartsII

    and you do?

  • @mothergone In all absolute seriousness, I've never known of any artist who I've seen so many people choosing as a "funeral" choice -- "Come On Up to the House", "On the Nickel", "Cold, Cold, Ground", "Anywhere I Lay My Head". I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I'm glad to know there is still a songwriter today who can draw more emotion than dollars. Thank you, Tom.

  • @MrCrazyproduction heartattack and vine

  • wich album is this from.

  • Great song. Most people will never understand it.

  • Lived on the Nickle---Spring&Fifth---Frontier Hotel$Million Dollar Hotel---before Eye stopped drinking, where you can still hear the click-clicking of Tom's Stacey Adams echoing out of the alleyways, off the Grand Central fruit stalls, and rattling off the rafters in my mind--no matter where you are Tom--NYC, NorCal, or Whirled-wide, you are always an Angeleno.

  • @mothergone Bless you and your son and his girl and all your loved ones.
