Imagine the future - I'm attracted to Bowden's writing like a bug in the dark is attracted to the light of fire.

@bloemetjen Yes, well, in the book, it's not so explicit whether the government is purposefuly drugging the population. But arguments could be made either way . . . in terms of drug distribution, etc.

Capitalism is the final chapter in historic evolution of THE TYRANNY OF PRIVATE PROPERTY RELATIONSHIP of alienation, exploitation and suffering of humanity, a Market mechanism where minority interest is the NEGATION OF OUR COMMON HUMANITY IN COOPERATION and HARMONY. We shall overcome the structure of minority power and oppression and reclaim our planet for a world of cooperation for our common needs and well being, expressing our energetic creative divinity in freedom of being.

@arzoyan, I hope you do not mean something like communism? Or a Brave New World utopia?
But I do like you're statement in a lot of ways. I don't believe in it do.

@bloemetjen "I hope you do not mean something like communism? Or a Brave New World utopia?"
If you think Huxley was describing "communism" in BNW, you've entirely missed the book's point. Huxley warns us of a world where no one wanted to read books, of a culture diverted by mindless pleasure where the population, preoccupied by trivia and gossip, no longer cares about truth or information; a society in which we are seduced into submission, complicit in our own enslavement.
Ring any bells?

@bapyou, well if you read my reaction I write "Or a Brave New World Utopia".
I think you are right. Huxley talked a lot about a society where the population is controlled by drugs etc.
The western world is heading in that direction.
Indeed, we are complicit in our own enslavement.

@bloemetjen "Huxley talked a lot about a society where the population is controlled by drugs etc."
No, he wrote about people using drugs as an escape. Your wording suggests the government was feeding drugs to its population as a method of control. They burned books (the repository of knowledge) in 1930s Germany. They also mocked intellectuals. Such elements are present in 2010s America. Certainly Americans are preoocupied with trivia & gossip & no longer care about truth or information.

@bapyou, Huxley talked about controlling the population by drugs and technology in an interview with Mike Wallace in 1958. You can see in on youtube.
