American Airlines flight 331, a Boeing 737-800 (N977AN) on a scheduled flight from Miami, Florida to Kingston, Jamaica, had skidded off the runway during landing resulting the jet's fuselage to break into two. The aircraft was severely damaged after it overran the runway. The plane came to rest just short of the ocean. The engines were separated and landing gear collapsed.

There were 148 passengers and six crew members on board. The accident occurred about 10:20 pm local time, and it was raining at the time.

  • I like how AA are trying to cover it up like nothing happened... " Ok everybody, nothing to see here! One of our planes just split in half there is NOTHING wrong here, mind your own god damn business!" LOL.
