Spoken word artist London Bridgez at the opening ceremonies for AIDS Walk Boston 2009.
Good Morning. My name is London. Today is June 7, 2009 and I came here to say, that you could have been anywhere in the world this morning, but you came here fired up, ready to move and commemorate the fight against HIV and AIDS. So I thank you.
You came with bags packed, sneakers laced, pledges in hand and ready. So I thank you.
You came because you care, you came because you remember, those whos names are written in heavens skies. They watch over us as we cry and miss them, honor and kiss them. From Earth we promise to resist, persist and exist for them. We are here determined to be that there will be no others lost. So I thank you.
You came because of these words research and education, inspiration, courage, treatment that sometimes is and isnt working. You came because of funerals and friends. You came because of babies and mothers. You came because of an epidemic once considered for others, but we now realize we need a global intervention. You came because of the words action and prevention, and I have to mention our community, with the diverse mix of straights, L, G, B, T, Q, you and me. So I thank you.
You came knowing that despite all medical and political advances we have made in the fight against HIV and AIDS that there is still work to be done daily. The work is not for the few, it is for the many. It is heavy but we are ready, willing and able. So I thank you.
I thank you because you are still loving, still trusting, still hoping that therell be a cure tomorrow. You heard the wake up call and pledged to stand for all walks of life. See, you probably wont remember my name, but you will remember this morning and you will remember that after today, you will never be the same. Because you and I, regardless of color or creed, came together to walk for change. So I thank you.
See, we cannot do this without you. Look to you left and look to your right, tell someone you story. I promise that you will find a common glory.
Make a new friend today. We are all here and we need a collective strength, at arms length to extend 6.2 miles and to run the 5k. So as you walk and run, tell somebody I love you and I thank you.
So my brothers, good morning and my sisters good morning. Let these spoken words hug you. I love you. Good morning, and thank you.
Very Cool !
It was a pleasure to share a piece for such important awareness. I will continue to support and encourage others to give. Every dollar counts.
to the morrow,
London
