@Faust075 Sorry for my being rude with you...I've just deleted my poor comments.Perhaps that was not my day... Maria Callas was and still is unattainable and legendary actress, but should we neglect the art of others? Something tells me that one day we'll be proud of being contemporaries of Fleming,Nentrebko and Gheorghiu. My apologies to you once again...

@kgarmaker123 Why being a top lyric soprano is not enough for her I can't understand. She has a beautiful voice albeit now beginning to show some decline which is natural at her age but in the right rep she still sounds wonderful. In the You Tube Armida posts she sounds miles better than she did live at the Met last February. Technology does wonders for voice recordings these days. Which is why we shouldn't base our judgement solely on recordings.

@asdfopera She has a beautiful voice.. ... I hate this however.. And this is not rep that is suitable.
-
@Ariadne7710 She could not sing this rep(live that is) even during her prime.. she avoided it.. She used to perform the duet from Puritani, and avoided the high D's altogether.

@kgarmaker123 Yes you are absolutely right. She is a wonderful Mozartean. But for some reason all sopranos these days want to sing coloratura showpieces because audiences go wild for them, so no matter whether the voice has the range and agility to do it they all give it a go. Generally if they have good top notes they think there is nothing to it, but to do it well you need the whole lot. Top notes, agility, good middle and low registers and breath control to die for. Not easy at any age!!

@Ariadne7710 I am very sure you are correct.. Her voice has no squillo. She is/was a superb Mozart singer, and in that rep you do not compete with the orchestra... Her voice is yes, as you say a lyric and she should confine herself to that..

@kgarmaker123 I actually heard her at the MET singing this last February. She should thank her lucky stars that on video and on recorded transmissions she sounds this good. Technology amplifies voices pretty well these days. In the theatre her voice was weak and didn't project well enough. And I was sitting in the middle of the stalls! I hate to think what it must have sounded like on the top tier. By the end she was struggling. She should stick to lyric roles at this stage of her career.

Dear God ... If we give you Fleming, Netrebko and Gheorgjiu, would you send us back Maria Callas ??? Please ...
Callas sings this aria much more better than Fleming, but Renee' s voice is very beautiful.

@sillyboydeux You are so right, she flagrantly ignores markings.Sh e is so hell bent on being cute, with all those ornaments, and emphasis, that are jazzy , sloppy and lazy. . How does that fit this style. ? I have never ever been a big fan of this woman, because her choices ( musical) make it hard to ever imagine her as the character she is portraying.
