R.J. Rushdoony - Spiritual Autism

Dr. R.J. Rushdoony, one of the great scholars of the 20th Century, delivers a prophetic warning to the West.

In this rare, never-seen-before video excerpt - taken from a lecture he gave in Tampa Bay in the early 90's - "Rush" uses autism as a metaphor for a spiritual sickness that has become epidemic: an obsession with self; that whether we are talking about church or politics, people are asking the same thing: "What's in it for me?"

Prescient as always, his warning that this form of autism, if left unchecked, could spell a 200 year dark age for Western Civilization may well be coming true.

You can plainly see the implications of this truth... We must be FORCED by an all-powerful government to execute that which Christ instructed- all the social programs the Church no longer nurtures... We would rather buy cheap crap than pay a man a fair price for his goods... Greed is actually pondered to be good, rather than a voracious sin... Look up the root of the word "autism", you will see RJ uses it correctly. Self-centered is simply self-worship, another form of idolatry.

What this man is talking about is creating an american fascist theocracy. We know from history what derives from religious theocracies ...

That is what caused the dark ages. Its not just dying for what you believe, and being persecuted for what you believe, but if he had his way the the theocratic dictators would be persecuting and killing others who did not agree with their beliefs.

Just like Calvin helped in having Michael Servetus, arrested and then tortured and then burned alive.

Being a Calvinist, he neglects to explain that Calvinism teaches that God created the vast majority of humans who will ever live to ultimately damn them to eternal torture for his own Glory.

This is a tragic and insulting misuse of the word autism. And Shelley and Emerson selfish? What? Rushdoony exhibits profound ignorance on so many levels. That there is an egoism problem in the West is hardly debatable, but this clip is just so much sanctimonious drivel.

@parallelperspectives your definition of autism is flawed. My daughter is autistic, and she is hyper-self-absorbed. Everything she does is because she cannot cope & wants to stay in her own little world. She engages in self-stimulation (stimming), repetitive behaviors which releases endorphines (runner's high hormone) - it's a coping mechanism. She cannot process information properly, her brain does not work properly. It's more like bad programming and error messages & we live with it every day.
