music by Don Sebesky. Performed, recorded, shot and edited by Giulio Carmassi.

I just received my new trumpet from Jason Harrelson and decided to shoot a very raw video with it.
Just first take on piano, bass and drums and a couple takes with the trumpet.
No preparation, editing. Just the tracks.

I also only have access to a much less posh camera now, so the image quality is not up to standard, but hopefully soon i'll have the money to buy another 5d.

it was shot with a canon 550d t2i and a canon 35mm F/2.0 lens.
iso 200. aperture 2.2.

the trumpet is a Harrelson summit with bell 5 (copper) and leadpipe 7(opened up to a number 2, very open)
The mouthpiece is a modified monette B4, with an opening of 225(!) inside.
Its throat is about twice as wide as any mouthpiece you'll find for sale that is not custom made.
Also Jason Harrelson added some bracing for me.
This allows me to have a breathy, dark, silky sound and yet loads of power if i push the accelerator.

The bass is a ultra cheap japanese P/j bass from 1985.
I installed 2 klein pickups on it, and it was recorded through a universal audio 610.

drums are a 1969 champagne sparkle ludwig set, with a slingerland snare from the same period.
Cymbals are all 50's and 60's A zildjian's plus an old paiste forumula 602 crash, from Danny Gottlieb's collection, and my dear Ufip china. I bought it 20 years ago. when i was 10. :)

the keyboard is a roland rd700 nx that i use only as a controller, as it's got the best keys on the market in my opinion, and then i trigger the synthogy ivory II, a masterpiece of modern sampling. (the preset is the "german piano" aka steinway D).

hope you enjoy! more complex stuff on my page and in the future! :)

  • Giulio, hey ... YT is full of hacks and half-assed musicians that wish they were stars. You, my man, should be a star. This is as good a composition and masterful performance of an original work that I've heard. You deserve a wider audience. Jimmy
