Kaiser Permanente Colorado contributed to new research that reveals substantial differences — by both surgeon and institution — in the rates of follow-up surgeries for women who underwent a partial mastectomy for treatment of breast cancer. Heather Spencer Feigelson, PhD, of Kaiser Permanente Colorado's Institute for Health Research is a co-author of the study, which appeared Jan. 31 in the Journal of the American Medical Association. She explains that while it's important for surgeons to get all of the tumor, at the same time, for cosmetic reasons, they want to take as little breast tissue as necessary. This study is about finding that balance. Read more information at our News Center: kp.org/newscenter.
