@IgorWelkenbach A couple of those are new to me but raghead and haji are the usual epithets for this enemy. In Somalia the enemy were skinnies, in WWII they were jerries or krauts. Calling your enemy a mean name doesn't make you a racist.
As for the pedophile thing, a lot of Afghans are. It is very common for a middle aged man to bed a young teenage boy. You don't even have to take my word for it; there were a couple good PBS documentaries about the practice of selling boys.
@IgorWelkenbach Actually, you're wrong there. Admission of membership in the Klan or other extremist groups is disqualification for enlistment. Having the associated tattoos is also verboten.
@IgorWelkenbach In 2005 a guy walked into a crowd of people at the bazaar in the town near my FOB and blew himself up. He killed several people and wounded literally dozens. No NATO troops were present, nor were there any ANA or ANP present. The wounded males were brought to our FOB for medical care and I assisted in triage. The details are somewhat unpleasant. No females were transported to us. There were undoubtedly females present in the bazaar.
@IgorWelkenbach To be sure, there are horrid things done in war. It is also true that American soldiers aren't captured as often. This is largely a result of the asymmetrical battlefield. Our enemy is forced to engage in a style of fighting that does not lend itself well to taking prisoners. Still, captured Westerners (whether combatants, journalists, or other) are far more likely to be beheaded on video than suffer the indignity of a Halal meal with too little chickpeas.
@chopinbloc Or you're saying that you´ve never heard your colleagues use terms like "raghead", muslamb, mohammed pedophile, donkey fucker, and others? That's your "civilized" culture. It's Nazi Germany x2, just without the balls to go to war with strong countries
@chopinbloc Don't try and deny it, yours is a hateful culture full of prejudice. In no other place that calls itself "free" have i ever seen presidential candidates that could easily ashame Pinochet or Somoza. There's a lot of wannabe nazis in Europe and other places too I know, but in what other place can your average KKK yokel get a gun and get sent to a country full of "brown people" to mock, kill and humiliate?
@chopinbloc Yeah ages ago I've seen a video of those 2 guys captured in Iraq, I think it made it to the front page of important newspapers, they had raped a 14 year old girl and the Iraqis brutally chopped them to pieces while they were alive. Then there were those gentle Blackwater mercenaries burned and hung from a bridge... then there's that guy captured by the Afghan insurgents, dont remember his name...Been a captive for years now, tried to escape once,n' they brutally..uh..shaved his head
@IgorWelkenbach Let's keep it in perspective, though: a very few of our guys have desecrated corpses while it is SOP for the enemy to behead POWs. Our cultures certainly handle things differently.
@IgorWelkenbach I'm sure there is some element of truth to that but I think it's a lot more complicated than that. For one thing, everyone who is not a sociopath will be deeply affected by war and killing fellow human beings. Everyone copes with the situation differently but attempting to dehumanize seems to be a way for some Joes to compartmentalize those emotions.
@chopinbloc Indeed, dehumanizing your enemy makes it easier for the ignorant and hateful to be baited into war and endure its harshness. I can barely stand looking at a picture of a corpse; but yet those pictures of pale, shaved dudes with half their face missing due to a RPG or a Dshk round can even make me grin. And you defined youtube : only boring stuff allowed. I mean, they take down most Juba and IED videos! Hell, there were some impressive shots... the tracer one was brutal. Guy twitchin'
