  • is the video a joke? (this is a serious question)

  • @jorgefl1965

I was poking fun at a viral challenge to atheists to "provide proof and evidence that atheism is accurate and correct," as though not believing someone else's claim was itself a claim.

  • @moopism and DGENERATIONXRATED

Wow. You guys are having a really entertaining conversation =D

  • wait based on your definition of an atheist and atheist is someone who is monotheistic?

  • @ChelevSaRa but you put "ATHEISM The state of not believing in the existence of gods" you put a plural which could mean that atheists are monotheistic

  • @DGENERATIONXRATED

Well, it seems unlikely, but I suppose someone could take it that way. Our language is quite subject to interpretation.

  • @lewiss1100 Because religion is stuffed in our face all the time. Arguing with a Christian is like wrestling a pig. In the end, you're both covered in shit and the pig is still a pig.

  • rofl, this was.. so funny. It seriously looks to me like its making fun of the creationist XD

  • @MrShoeguy Dictionary definitions reflect common usage within a society and don't dictate the actual meanings of the trends within religious and philosophical discourse. Always keep in mind that definitions change and rely on a deep structure of bias throughout history. N.b. the bias isn't necessarily malevolent or conscious. Dictionaries don't always provide the nuance necessary to fully comprehend the terms.

  • @Squatch347 an atheist is someone who does not believe. An agnostic is someone who doesnt know.

Those are not opposite positions, and it is perfectly reasonable to hold both positions.

  • @Squatch347 What if I am convinced there is no god by the absence of any evidence. I definitely consider myself an atheist. I admit I could be wrong, but have no logical reason to believe I am. I don't feel your definitions are completely correct.

  • @ChelevSaRa To not accept the Theist claim is agnosticism, not atheism. If you are an atheist you are making a positive claim that "there is no God." An agnostic is someone who says "I am unconvinced by any arguments."

  • As in an Atheist would say: "Prove God exists" etc.

  • This'll always be the case.

Atheist: Prove God exists. Evolutionary theory. Semi-tangible evidence in the form of fossils etc.

Religious: Prove God doesn't exist. Belief system. A book written thousands of years ago.

    Try logic. It might help.

  • @MrShoeguy Well, no. Look it up within an encyclopedia to get a real answer. Good try though.
