He most likely would have survived the incident had he been wearing some form of crash helmet instead of a cloth cap! He must have been a reasonable rider though... The Brough he was riding was his 7th with his new one being finished in the factory. Out of interest, T E L's SS100 cost £180, the average house price at the time was £90.

Never drive motorcycles on English country roads on Sundays my friends, for the boys are coming back with bread on their bicycles----our dear friend Lawrence has taught us this tragic lesson....sniff, sniff.

All men dream but not equal, those that dream in the quiet recesses of the night; wake to find it was only vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act upon their dreams eyes open to make them a reality. - T.E. Lawrence

@rlproductioons Lots of people were involved in "covert" operations and still are everywhere. They don't get bumped off just because of that. TEL died from a motorcycle crash. He was personal friends of the Brough brothers and lived near them. Many more men than he were killed in England riding too fast, doing the "ton" was important and apparently still is. The narrator here is also making projections of her own opinion. TEL had no more "demons" or regrets than most soldiers- war is hell

@cyclecourier More conspiracy theory nonsense for the nosensical. And look at the pretextual way this guy writes, "the world of British fascism? I guess that makes all government fascist? Oh, we've got an anarchist here! Intelligent people who can't rule themselves, yet advocate the ultimate form of existence is just individuals clubbing one another for food, sex, comfort - because that is what it comes down to..

Murdered by MI6,because he didn't like the way the Government was slling out to the Zionists as was Gertrude Bell.

In letters to his close friend George Bernard Shaw, Lawrence informs him of the various scrapes and accidents he has had whilst riding his motorcycles.
The Brough Superior for it's time was one of the most powerfull motorcycles you could buy.
A man with an addiction for speed and fast bikes was bound to come to grief some time.
A trdgic accident waiting to happen.

If you visit the website about Lawrence there are letters he wrote to his close friend George Bernard Shaw recounting the various motorcycling accidents he had been involved in.
For people including historians to be surprised at Lawrences death in a motorcycling accident is strange as it is fairly common knowledge Lawrence was no stranger to the tarmac.
No one believes he was a danger in the world of british fascism? His accident may not have been an accident?

Some do....none of it was ever proven, his close ties with Churchill would seem the best argument in that direction.
He was a covert military advisor, so who knows?

I wonder if those boys ever regretted their stupidity. That said, as a motorcycle rider myself it's fairly obvious from what i know of this accident that he was driving far too fast/not driving defensively given that he couldn't see ahead, and that he likely would've survived if he hadn't been reckless.

It was very close to his house, so that may have added as well, when you know the road well you tend to drive faster.
During the filming we saw the same thing happening, a bicycle came out of the bushes strait onto to the road, but more fortunate that time we weren't driving and having a brake. Goes to show how easily accidents can come about.

I believe that his overly-recless/fast driving that contributed to the accident was due to his demons.
It's interesting that the surgeon who attended to him was a driving force in the creation of helmets, following the death of Lawrence.

During the reconstruction of the accident we found that the two boys must have come off the bank, like two deer, you can steer clear of the first one, but then no way out but to hit the second that comes on the road.
The documentary does exist, see website, more clips now too
