30 years ago Dorothy Day died peacefully in New York City leaving a legacy of 180 radical Catholic Worker communities practising the acts of mercy to the poor and nonviolent resistance to the war making state.

10 days later in New York City John Lennon, a voice of a generation was slain and silenced.

20 years ago, the US launched its long war on the people of Iraq. Intense US bombardment, genocidal sanctions and outright invasion have slain millions of Iraqi people, driven 2 million into Exile and displaced another 2 million internally.

10 years ago the US launched its ongoing invasion of Afghanistan. An endless war with little public support but little visible opposition.

On the cusp of Christmas 2010, Catholic Workers in London inspired by the words of John Lennon and the practices of Dorothy Day got out of bed and headed to their local shopping mall to shutdown the army recruitment centre...

  • @IamJacksVideos I am a Christian Anarchist-meaning I take JC very seriously and Ms. Day is the patron saint of my site.

Dorothy and Tolstoy influenced me, but it was John Lennon who inspired me the most to THINK for myself and act accordingly.

Day entered the Catholic Church, but I left it at the age of 12, in the summer of 1966, inspired by Lennon's honesty and on Dec. 26, OpedNews[dot]com HEADLINED this vid in the article:

John Lennon, Dorothy Day and Christmas 2010 in the UK

  • While I support your commitment and message, I find it offensive that you would compare a beautiful radical like Ms. Day with the likes of John Lennon. I grow sad as followers of Jesus turn to pop stars rather than G-d as their inspiration for peace. This video makes me sad. Where is G-d? Does G-d mean nothing to you? G-d will bring this rotten system down; should our voice of proclamation not be of that fact? Do you believe in G-d or in Lennon? I take that question back, its answer is obvious

  • Love the vid guys keep it up :) (get it)

  • “How can you kill people, when it is written in God’s commandment: ‘Thou shalt not murder’?”– Leo Tolstoy

Christians understand God is LOVE and "Love is not the starving of whole populations. Love is not the bombardment of open cities. Love is not killing...Our manifesto is the Sermon on the Mount, which means that we will try to be peacemakers...No one has a right to sit down and feel helpless, there's too much to do." -Dorothy Day

  • "The struggle is in the mind. We must bury our own monsters and stop condemning people. We are all Christ and Hitler. We want Christ to win. We're trying to make Christ's message contemporary. What would he have done if he had advertisements, records, films, TV and newspapers! Christ made miracles to tell his message. Well, the miracle today is communications, so let's use it."-John Lennon

Thank you London for seizing the day.

  • Radical "HOPE has two children. The first is ANGER at the way things are. The second is COURAGE to DO SOMETHING about it."-St. Augustine

John Lennon was born 68 years ago today. His physical presence left us 9 days after Dorothy Day's did in 1980. Dorothy Day entered the Catholic church, I left it at the age of 12, in the summer of 1966, inspired by John Lennon’s honesty...

  • "Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me.

"You're just left with yourself all the time, whatever you do anyway. You've got to get down to your own God in your own temple. It's all down to you, mate.

"All we are saying is give peace a chance.

    "All you need is love.

"Imagine all the people living life in peace."-saint Lennon

THANK YOU London CW for the greatest gift i received this CHRISTmas: RADICAL HOPE

  • saint Lennon said:

"Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends.

"I believe that as soon as people want peace in the world they can have it. The only trouble is they are not aware they can get it.

"That what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right.

  • I aint a Catholic, and I aint a believer in orthodox faith, but I do love it when I hear through all the noise and shouting, people from whatever faith they believe in, actually doing stuff that inspires the spirit to follow. Merry Christmas to you and your kin. May the new year bring us closer together than the last year, and not as close as we will be this time next year
