2011 Merrie Monarch Week started Easter day at the Civic Auditorium in Hilo Hawaii. Kumu Johnny Lum Ho and his Halau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua were there. This is a beautiful hula dance by the Halua
Nice! But if my kupuna where alive today they would say that this hula is "too busy!" As Aunty Pat Bacon (adopted sister of Mary Kawena Pukui and a leading authority on hula said to me), " in todays hula's there are too many twists and turns!" "You should choreograph hula's as if someone in the audience was deaf!" "If you have all of those turns and twists, how would one understand it if they were deaf?" Again....nice, but too busy!
busily beautiful!! Love you uncle Johnny and Halau O ka Ua Kani Lehua!!
