I have built 2 wind generator in 2006, each 1.5 kw, each cost me $110 to build in 2006 - i love them... I got full instruction how to make homemade wind power generator - if anyone interested.......

I probably spent about $80 on this unit. It would ahve been twice that plus batteries if I didn't have a bunch of junk in my garage to use. I definately had mor than $80 worth of fun out of it, so it pays as a hobby but I definately can't compete with the hydro, coal, neuc units. I am convinced that if I lived out of the city I could homebuild enough to go self sufficient but it's not practical where I live. I am currently working on a vertical axis unit. design flaw is costing an extra $80
