M2, M6, M8, M9 etc etc denotes the loco class numbers given by Sri lanka Railways.
M stands for main Line.

seen returns via dubai for £500 with Emirates!!! Just a few days is whats called for! Wife bound to approve... what can go wrong... post civil war country, trains, cameras... dodgy blokes on platforms... Ho Ho Ho

Thanks for the comments. I hoped they would be sharper but was not sure what size to upload. Your photos were brilliant.
With regard to trip...Sounds like a plan for the future. (would have to get a chitty from the wife!!)

I see powerplants here classified by Class V, VI etc. can someone define that. thanks.

I believe you are refering to the Indian Locos(?) which have a loading rating of V or V1. Not to be confused with the class numbers.
I am sure someone else looking at these photos will know more and post a reply.
