There may be another reason why the banana fruit should be appreciated other than its nutritional value of providing the body with vitamins and minerals. Research in the United States has shown that bananas could hold the key to new treatments against the HIV and AIDS virus? Researchers from the Michigan University found that a banana ingredient called banlec was as effective as two existing anti-HIV drugs. Although researchers in the country have welcomed the study, Kenyans are being warned not to eat every banana available in order to protect themselves against the virus. These findings have to go through various trials that could take up to seven years before a conclusive decision is made.
