Disagree. Austin worked for MONTHS after KOTR getting his character over. He would of been huge regardless.

@girlgarde Yeah you're right Owen won it in '94. 1995 was a tough year, they didn't do the greatest job of booking and story lines were shakey. Bret wrestling Jerry Lawler's dentist at summerSlam (kane before Kane)? Really? I felt that the WWF buried Bret in '95 (Kilq factor probably) and the fans grew bored of him as a result. Diesel as champ for over a year was bad for business too. One of the worst champs in terms of drawing money.

@zzDzCzCzz It was in 1995 actually but you're right, Mabel only got a short term push that ended up only serving to build up Diesel as a major power further and give the Undertaker a tough feud in 1995. The way Mabel won it was lame too and quite undeserving......

If ya win KOTR you were guaranteed to become Champ? I wonder what Owen's thinking as he looks down from the rafters of heaven? Mabel, Ken Shamrock, Billy Gunn, William Regal, El Matador, Don Muraco, are still waiting for that Championship run.

@seanadam i agree, i feel like this ppv launched careers and made stars out of people. if you won king of the ring you were almost guaranteed to become wwf champion or have a huge buzz.

The most puzzling winner had to be Mable in 1994. Men on a Mission never really struck it big and this did nothing to enhance Mable or the tournament.

wrong the first KOTR winner was NOT Bret Hart. The first KOTR winner was Don Muraco in 1985. Then Harley Race in 1986. Randy "Macho Man" Savage in 1987. Million Dollar Man in 1988. El Matador in 1989. Bret Hart won in 1991 & 1993. The Rocket won in 1994. Mabel in 1995. Stone Cold in 1996. The Game in 1997. Ken Shamrock beat the Rock in 1998. Billy Gunn in 1999. Kurt Angle in 2000. Edge in 2001. Brock Lesnar in 2002. Booker T in 2006. Regal in 2008. Shameus 2010. The best to win it: Macho King!
