I think they are going the wrong direction with it, They may be ble to secure investors easier if it were extended to run along the outside of NY NY Monte Carlo through City Centre Bellagio forum shops etc...along side I-75 with stops at the fashion show mall and yet to be built Echelon, circus circus, stratosphere THEN to Downtown as phase 2 originally planned. This would open up more locations attracting more riders etc... it would be nice to get it to the palms or Rio also.

@Streetcar1743 ya i accidently replyed about the fares under your comment, i posted another reply to the guys comment about unfair pricing, basically it was $28 for 3 day pass verses, $70 for 3 cab rides in three days, the cab unions would never allow the monorail to expand to the airport, to many people would be out of work.
-
@walleye364 Yes. I think that $5.00 fare isn't that bad. And the price for a day pass isn't that bad. But someone else said it was too expensive. Somone is lying. I think you are telling the truth. Semphares is the one that is complaing about the fare. He states if the fare is lowered and expanded, then more people would ride it.
-
it will never be expanded because of the cab unions, the cabs make millions a year from fares, and it would put alot of cabbies out of work. same goes for expanding it to fremont street, the fares are extremly resonable, if you use it alot, $28 for unlimted 3 day use, 3 cab rides in 3 days plus tips, $70 easily, i use it at least 5 times a day when i stay in vegas, i usually stay at ballys, and it reaches a good number of casinos.
-
@Streetcar1743 i have to disagree with you on the fares, i think they are very resonable. a three day pass is only $28 for unlimited use, 1 cab ride is $20 it's a great steal, lots of stops airconditioned, when it's 105 out it sure beats walking.
-
every time i'm in vegas i use it, i buy my 3 day pass and it's very resonable, i couldn't imagine not buying a ticket when i'm there, it's very secure, with camera's and security doing checks, they have monster energy drinks as a sponser, they have the traffic during the day but at night every one wants to see the lights on the strip.

@wicky201 I say thank goodness. I would say, they filed bankruptcy and the filmers came to the rescue and saved the monorail. I am glad that it is still in service. Eventhough the fare is pretty high, but at least we are paying the maintence guys. And what the filmer has shown us, that the maintenance guys really deserve the money.
-
@Streetcar1743 I said they were bankrupt, not out of business.
-
@wicky201 Google's skyview shot shows the tracks with the trains still running on it. What the company needs to do is to get the word out. Not keep it a stinking secret. Thanks to the filmers here on YouTube, maybe they may have gained more patronage. Way to go monorail filmers. Keep filming this thing.

@smphares Well even comapairing that to the price for a cab, it's really not that bad. And I always go for the truth. Psychics lie and Miss Cleo is a dirtbag.
-
@Streetcar1743 Sorry, let me rephrase my response... It's expensive for someone that doesn't gamble and ends up there with his family for dance competitions and doesn't want to battle the strip traffic to go to dinner. Plus, it's $5 for one ride. Gotta get back. So a family of four it's friggin $40, hence the over priced fare! Maybe if it was $5 round trip then maybe it would e worth it. But I can see where your coming from with the DUI charge thing.
It's a shame more people don't use the LV Monorail.I think it's a great system, other then the distance one has to walk to get to it, and would miss it if it were to shut down.

@BangkokBoy101 Totally agreed - especially if they were to extend the system out to the airport. It could make weekend trips to Vegas so much more palatable.

Haha I live here, and some people in Vegas that live here don't even know about it. It's no wonder cali and nevada are doing the worst in the recession. Everyone needs their stinkin stupid smelly loud cars.

@BLuEsHayZee It's terrible - as it actually could be a genuinely good system. And given the size of the Las Vegas metro area, a factually efficient monorail system that allows one to bypass the traffic on the strip would really be something.

The monorail company has filed for bankruptcy January 2010.

Wow - it isn't very surprising given the MASSIVE body traffic that obviously uses the system. I think anyone who has played SimCity can think of about 100 ways to actually make that system worthwhile.
